Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you. Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics. Then, there's the sonic quality: Mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere. Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded. All mini-sleeve releases are tremendously limited editions mainly pressed on future orders only and once released immediately out of print. It's essential for mega-fans. Yes, "John & Yoko" is just that..."John!!! Yoko!!! John!!! Yoko!!! John, John!! Yoko, Yoko, Yoko!" for about 20 minutes (estimate) but it is so much more. It seems an effort at pure emotional expression without the contempt that "Cambridge 1969" received. "John & Yoko" is very interesting with excellent instrumental backing, just not as interesting as other Yoko Ono songs. "Amsterdam" begins with a short improvised song recorded during their honeymoon "Bed-In" in Amsterdam. Basically, it's "Peeeeeeeace. Let's hope for Peeeeeeeace." It then goes on to a quite fun interview with John and Yoko explaining their "Bed-In" to baffled reporters. They talk about the idiocy of "getting peace through violence" (their method being much less of an oxymoron) and other various topics, all with the ultimate goal of ending the stupid Vietnam War. Followed, as all re-released Yoko Ono albums by bonus tracks. "Who Has Seen the Wind?" was brilliantly played by the unknown backing musicians and stands as yet another anthem of John and Yoko's love. "Listen the Snow Is Falling" is by the usual Plastic Ono Band and is also brilliantly played and overdubbed with snow and wind sound effects. "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking For Her Hand in the Snow)" is a much earlier home demo with just her and John on guitar and is much easier to take (2:30) than the seventeen-minute tour de force of the version on "Sometime in New York City." "Wedding Album" is a must for any established Yokophile. Track Listings 1. John & Yoko 2. Amsterdam 3. Who Has Seen the Wind? [*] 4. Listen, the Snow Is Falling [*] 5. Don't Worry, Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow) [#][ John Lennon Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll is the sixth studio album by John Lennon. Released in 1975, it is an album of late 1950s and early 1960s songs as covered by Lennon. Phil Spector produced sessions in October 1973 at A&M Studios, and Lennon produced sessions in October 1974 at Record Plant Studios (East). The album reached number 6 in both the United Kingdom and the United States, later being certified gold in both countries. It was supported by the single "Stand by Me," which peaked at number 20 in the US, and 30 in the UK. The cover was taken by Jürgen Vollmer during the Beatles' stay in Hamburg. It was Lennon's last album until 1980. The album was remastered from John Lennon’s original mixes in 2010 by a team of engineers led by Allan Rouse at Abbey Road Studios in London and by George Marino at Avatar Studios in New York. The new vinyl master was cut by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios and the LP has been manufactured for the world by Optimal Media in Germany. John Lennon is one of the world’s most celebrated songwriters and performers of all time. Lennon has been posthumously honored with a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY® Award and two special BRIT Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2008, Rolling Stone ranked him in the Top 5 of the magazine’s “100 Greatest Singers Of All Time” list. "...stands as a peak in his post-Imagine catalog...Today, Rock 'n' Roll sounds fresher than the rock & roll that inspired it in the first place. Just Because MILK & HONEY - Thankfully back in print after being unavailable for several years, BUT NOW OUT OF PRINT IN THIS JAPAN REPLICA - John Lennon & Yoko Ono's "Milk & Honey" album is a wonderful swan song for Lennon (although it certainly wasn't intended as such). Released in 1984, it comprises Lennon's leftover songs from the "Double Fantasy" sessions, some of them in unfinished form, as well as additional material from Yoko, with the album following the same call-and-response format of the couple's "Double Fantasy" disc. In some ways, "Milk & Honey" is actually better than the Grammy-winning "Double Fantasy" (as great an album as that one is), if for no other reason than Yoko's contributions are a LOT easier on the ears this time around. John's material on "Double Fantasy" is classic Lennon all the way, but apart from the very sweet "Yes I'm Your Angel," Yoko's tunes on "Double Fantasy" were very difficult to take, what with her screeching vocals and choppy delivery. Not so on "Milk & Honey." Her songs this time around are melodic & tuneful through and through, and even her singing here is quite tolerable (my favorite: "Let Me Count The Ways," which is very lovely). Her songs compliment John's material on this album very nicely. Although some of John's songs here sound unfinished (considering his amusing, joking vocals on a few tracks, probably not intended as the final versions), all of his songs are a great pleasure to listen to, including "I'm Stepping Out," "Nobody Told Me," "I Don't Wanna Face It," and "Borrowed Time." "Grow Old With Me," John's wedding song which is heard here in cassette demo form (the only existing recording of it), is a gorgeous song, one of Lennon's best. "Forgive Me (My Little Flower Princess)" may indeed be a "throwaway" number, but oh, what a catchy, irresistible throwaway! It's bouncy and it lingers in the head, and for me, that's good enough. The bonus material on this re-issue are all excellent, too. "Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him," one of Yoko's best compositions, was originally a duet between John & Yoko. Now, the vocals have been re-mixed so it's John singing lead throughout, which is a very nice surprise. The CD concludes with an insightful 20-minute snippet from the last recorded interview John ever gave, a mere several hours before his tragic shooting. Listening to it, one is saddened by hearing a very happy, very talented man who had so much left to give to the world, and yet, the listener sadly knows that his time was almost up. Nonetheless, it's a very precious recording to have. The CD has also been remastered & remixed for better sound, and I couldn't be happier with it. "Milk & Honey" is a very fond farewell to one of the 20th Century's greatest musical geniuses, with a little bit of help from the woman who loved him. DOUBLE FANTASY 1. (Just Like) Starting Over 2. Walking on Thin Ice LIFE WITH LIONS JAPAN REPLICA OBI CD - What do you hear when you put "Life With the Lions" in your stereo? Well, first comes "Cambrige 1969", an extraordinarily long jam with John simply abusing guitars to produce feedback as Yoko screams and yells for about 26:30. The you hear a soft ballad, sans-instruments, about John losing his hospital bed, and various other things going on in the lives of John and Yoko. Then "Baby's Heartbeat", wisely followed by "Two Minutes Silence." Finally (for the old version) "Radio Play" a piece where John speaks in the background as Yoko flips through the various stations on the radio, producing one-nanosecond bursts of sound along the way. Two bonus tracks follow on the new version, "Song for John", and "Mulberry". "Song for John" is as close to a normal song you will find on "Lions," where "Mulberry" is more of the Avant Garde. When you know the story of the album, it is so much more interesting. Basically, Yoko is pregnant, due in February. She goes to the hospital for observation with John at her side the whole way. (He loses his bed and has to lie on a sleeping bag, however.) Well, Yoko's baby is miscarriaged. I do not know when it happened, that would change a lot about track #3, "Baby's Heartbeat." Laughing at the beginning of the track would suggest that the baby was alive at the time of the recording, but either way, it is a very sad, touching expirience. They may have had so much hope for the baby, only to have it flushed away. "Baby's Heartbeat" may have become a gift for the baby, instead it stands as a memorial. This CD is a lot of noise, however it was definitely structured. This is the most interesting of the three experimental albums, simply because of the intrigue involving the miscarriage. Did they know, or not? Could they possibly have released the sound of their baby's heart beating, if they knew it was dead? If you listen very closely to this album, open-minded and -hearted, it is sure to make you very sad. 1. Cambridge 1969 2. No Bed for Beatle John 3. Baby's Heartbeat 4. Two Minutes Silence 5. Consisting of 21 solo Lennon tracks cut between 1969 and 1980, Wonsaponatime , like the bulky Anthology , offers a selection of home, live, and studio recordings that have been buried for decades. Each part of the ex-Beatle's solo career is represented, from his probing PLASTIC ONO BAND phase (truly the highlights here), through his misbegotten counterculture-icon-in-the-making state, into his more-focused, less-inspired mid-'70s recordings, and closing with his final-days comeback sessions. It's not all the Lennon an aficionado could ask for, but it's enough for casual fans. Track Listings 1. I'm Losing You 2. Working Class Hero 3. God 4. How Do You Sleep 5. Imagine 6.
